It is our mission to announce the joy of the Gospel by making Christ known today.

INTENT/What we aim to do through our RE Curriculum

As a Catholic School, Religious Education lies at the heart of our curriculum.

Religious education in Catholic schools aims to promote:

  • knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and life in Christ;
  • knowledge and understanding of the response of faith to questions about human life, its origin and purpose;
  • the skills required to engage in examination of and reflection upon religious belief and practice, including awareness of and respect for the beliefs and practices of other faith groups and religious communities.

IMPLEMENTATION/How we teach RE

Our RE Curriculum is defined by the Archdiocese of Birmingham and is entitled 'Learning and Growing as People of God'.

Adaptations are made to the curriculum so that it is accessible to all and so that no child is disadvantaged by Special Educational Needs or Disaibility.

In October we celebrate the feast of Our Lady Mary of the Rosary.

In this special month, we have all been reflecting and praying for the well-being and growth of our pupils. We thank the Virgin Mary for her protection she gives us.

Year 4 Judaism posters

We learnt that Jesus grew up in a Jewish tradition of prayer and explored some prayers He would have learnt. We also learnt that the synagogue was a special place He went to hear the Old Testament scriptures and we looked at some religious artefacts and their significance to Jews and Jesus. Have a look at the posters we created after!

Exploring the Sacrament of the sick

On Thursday, Father Joe will came in to talk to us about the way the parish cares for the people who are sick and explained how the sacrament of the Sick is administer.

We explored the gestures of laying on of hands and anointing with the Oil of the Sick and why these gestures might be performed.

He also explained to us the meaning of the words that are said to the sick person as they are being anointed with the oil on their forehead and hands: “Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy strengthen you by the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin, save you and raise you up.”

Afterwards, Mrs Bernto came in to share with us the change and spiritual healing she felt when she received the Sacrament of the sick.
